Bikes Galore

How do I get a bike from Over The Edge?

What really sets us apart from other bike shops is that between us we have thoroughly tested every piece of kit in the shop which means we only stock the products we know are the best in their category for reliability, performance and after sales service. Therefore, we form partnerships with these suppliers and don't confuse the customer with too many options, many of which would not give them a good experience. Have you ever been experienced?

Our bike partners are at the top of the game - Knolly, Ibis, Turner and Rocky Mountain for our rentals. These brands are recognized as superior by the Over The Edge Group from extensive ride testing at Outdoor Demos, as well as on our own singletrack. We also have other bikes to suit all budgets and levels of experience. You won't find our bikes everywhere. People will sneak an admiring glance and ask you where you got it! Our bikes stand out in the crowd. These are quality bikes that are well reviewed in mountain bike magazines from quality designers, and engineers.

We will take the time to learn about the style of riding you do, or want to do over a chat and a coffee and we also have demo bikes to help you make that hard decision. Or customer service is second to none. We are very friendly, and unhurried. We know how a bike handles, we understand bike geometry, bike fit and different material options. We know which components represent real vale for money and suit which frames. We are ethical. We are independent and not bound to certain brands or supplier programmes.

And we don't just sell bikes. We ride the trails every day, we build the single track. We organise daily rides and charity rides, we run the Fat Tyre Festival and help with other events in our area. We would love to talk to you about your cycling needs and to offer products that are right for you and your budget. We are confident that you, like many others, would potentially find the experience quite memorable.

  ENDORPHIN

ENDORPHIN

Enduro, Technical XC and Lighter Duty All Mountain: everything that Knolly is known for in a lighter weight package.

The Endorphin is the latest addition to Knolly's ever increasing line of no-fuss full-suspension bikes. It features 140mm of Knolly's patented 4x4 suspension travel. Couple with plenty of tyre clearance and a full length seat tube, the Endorphin is ready to take on any challenge. I've seen riders on Endorphins do some pretty wild things - road gaps and super technical climbs. The Endorphin, a true do-all bike from our good friend Noel Buckley. Build it up light (Superlight Kit ~12.5kg) or stick on a 36 fork (All Mountain Kit) and take on some serious terrain..

and importantly, while it is built like a brick shithouse, it is also very pretty.. even the Large White, which sounds like a breed of pig but it couldn't be more different - well maybe like the flying pigs made famous by Pink Floyd..

  DELIRIUM-T

DELIRIUM T
Flexible All Mountain design capable of Slope Style and Heavy Duty Free Riding. Loves Air.

This would have to be the most versatile bike one could imagine. It pedals like a xc carbon bike but laughs at 20' gap jumps. This bike is built to last and provide hours of serious fun. Take it rabitting. Flexible head angles (3 positions) and 4 x 4 linkage. Check out the latest at knollybikes.com

New DT out now and great review from AMB Magazine. This is a bike that is so easy to pedal but will eat up every downhill course Australia has to offer and 20' gap jumps make it yawn. The 2010 Delirium is a full pound lighter and yet as strong as ever. The pedaling position has been tweaked for even better climbing and all mountain performance and yet the frame is an even more capable descender.

Specs:

A huge number of other design changes have been incorporated into the new 2010 Delirium: top tube clearance is improved, with standover height improvements of up to 2" (50mm). Seat tubes are reduced in length for better dropped seat height stand over; they have also been steepened to provide better pedaling positions with longer 180mm forks and slack angles as well as with height adjustable seat posts.

Ibis make some of the most beautiful bikes around. Their MOJO full suspension bike has won numerous awards.

Bike of the Year.
"It's just quietly perfect… the whole bike is a real honey.
in fact if it were a woman, we'd most certainly marry it."

      MOJO (XT)
Top of the range XC / Singletrack trail bike, full carbon frame with 140mm rear wheel travel.

This baby is just pure unadulterated bliss. Has to be ridden to be believed. The most important fact about the ibis is that it isn't just a sexy looking bike - that's not why it keeps winning mountain bike of the year - it is the fact that the little hole at the front is a great place to frame cool photos on the trails. The riding pleasures are already legendary so I will not waste my time expounding on their virtues here. Come in and ride a demo today if you need to.

And we thought the mojo was light but this thing has helium injected into the carbon nanotubule frame matrix and without wheels it actually needs to be strapped down to the ground. So before each ride it has become customary to bellow, "chocks away!".

OK, some of that could be embellishment and poetic license.. and some of the guys that invented this bike might have been inspired by peyote too but as a group ibis has pulled it all together with a professionalism unrivalled in the industry. Immaculate.

Ever experienced the Carbon Drive System (CDS)? These are belt-driven bikes (Longboard) with special belts that are lightweight, clean, maintenance free, durable, efficient, don't rust, no lubrication required, smooth running, quiet, instant engagement and all thanks to patented carbon tensile member technology. Sounds pretty good.. is good. Ride one today and leave the bungee jumping for another time.

They also have geared bikes (Longboard 1 x 9 and 3 x 9 = 27) and retro town crusiers too (Highline 3 speed) .

These bikes are hand made in Golden, Colorado and they are works of art. Super lightweight, flexible, strong CrMo. The geometry is cool and so are the folk at Spot and that is why we stock them

        ORBEA ALLOY HARDTAILS
Each and every Orbea is made with a passion that is expressed in beautiful bikes. Every Orbea has an intricate hand-painted finish that takes hours to perfect. More importantly, every Orbea ignites passion in its rider. Orbea bicycles climb with aplomb and descend intuitively. It is a pedigree born in the best cycling region in the world: The Pyrenees.     We have nice Orbea MTB hardtails at great prices. The Orbea Satellite and Sherpa and Tenere and Dakar to name a few. All backed up with Orbea quality componentry and super pretty paint jobs. Check out Phoebe's Sherpa.

ORBEA OCCAM ALLOY FULL SUSPENSION

Sharing the same design as its carbon brother, the Occam is ready for adventure. The front triangle is made up of hydroformed aluminum, while the rear triangle shares the carbon bike's monocoque alloy swingarm and oversize pivot. This design allows Orbea to use tidy 16.65" chainstays that eliminate the sluggish feel of many full suspension bikes. The Occam's 4.75" of travel is enough for roughest trails and the light weight and responsiveness make it a great everyday choice.

ALMA RACE     HARDTAIL PAR EXCELLENCE - ALMA CARBON

Without a doubt our favourite hardtail. If you are a hardtail lover it is hard to go past this machine. It is the perfect weapon. The Alma Carbon hard tail is one of the most advanced frames on the market. The Four Point Triangle rear stay design means the chain stay can lengthen slightly, allowing a small amount of vertical compliance. This affords the rider a more comfortable ride, greater climbing traction and superior handling on descents, while still maintaining a stiff frame that delivers all the power to the rear wheel. The ideal bike for those who love to race a hard tail but want some all day comfort.

The first Orbea was built in 1930. And the brand soon became a staple of local enthusiasts. Over the decades since Orbea has honed the geometry and quality of their bicycles and they've been the choice of top stars like Pedro Delgado and Iban Mayo, as well as many of northern Spain's 1,500 cycling clubs. In their over 70 years of bicycle production Orbea has also led the way with cutting-edge innovation. As part of the Mondragon Cooperative, they draw on an industrial/financial team of over 100 companies and 59,000 workers—an unprecedented pool of resources and research resulting in one of the world's most advanced manufacturing facilities.

They've developed one of the world's lightest, strongest monocoque carbon frames, have one of the few factories in the world capable of the strict heat-treating protocol for Starship aluminum tubing, and are the world's largest Columbus tubing customer. Is it any wonder the carbon and aluminum Orbeas ridden by team Euskaltel-Euskadi are routinely among the most admired rides in the pro peloton?

Come try an Orbea today. We're sure you'll feel the passion, innovation and magic in every pedal stroke.

Congratulations Sam Sanchez on Gold on the Orca at Athens.

ORBEA ROAD

Built on the impassioned tradition of Basque cycling, Orbea bicycles stand apart. They're technically superior, aesthetically stunning and always imbued with the magic feel that makes them pure joy to ride. In fact, Orbea racers regular win at the highest levels of the sport. And, we're sure you'll feel like you've won as soon as you start riding yours.
Every Orbea is born in the heart of the Pyrenees in northern Spain. It's a region lush and emerald green with a mild climate ideal for riding year round. And cycling is a way of life here. Known as Euskadi in the Basque language and Pais Vasco in Spanish, this region is home to some 1,500 cycling clubs and thousands of cyclists.
Children actually learn to ride in school and are taught the area's cycling history as they grow up. Even the government promotes cycling passing laws to designate cycling routes where cars must drive very slow and pass with extra care.
In short, it's a paradise perfect for designing and making bicycles. It's no surprise that such a place would give rise to a rich history of bicycle building.

  Craftworks FRX     back to top

The Craftworks FRX is the one bike to do it all. Build it up as a light XC/trail weapon or as a 4X racer..... it's up to you.....

OK, it is a single pivot design. With all the crap aside, a correctly executed and setup single pivot design, piloted by an experienced, aggressive rider, is un beatable in simplicity and performance. Sure others will argue about characteristics created by wheel path, isolating braking and chain forces, but this always doesn't translate to measurable increases in performance at the handle bars.

The first thing you will notice about the FRX is stiffness when pedaling hard out of the saddle. This is due to the precisely designed CNC interface of the BB, main pivot and swing arm. Stiffness translates to efficient power transfer and a faster acceleration. We have a L demo in store so check it out. It is locally designed and built in SA and that makes backup support hard to beat.

There's more - We love these guys and this bike so support the planet and come and test ride a crafty today. We think they are the best value for money full suspension funbike on the market - our future rental bike

Big Mama uses a single pivot, flexing seatstay design to activate a custom- tuned Fox RP2 air shock. Most importantly, the seatstays act not just as a frame member, but also as an integral part of the suspension design.

At proper sag, the tuned seatstays provide resistance to pedal-induced bobbing while still remaining sensitive to small bump forces. On larger hits, the flexing seatstays work with the linkage to assist the rear shock in moving through its full stroke.

Use of the flexing seatstays also eliminates the need for a rearward pivot. This increases stiffness in the rear triangle. It also lessens stress on the frame's remaining pivots and bearings and increases durability.

In an effort to keep your wheels where you want them, lateral stiffness has been maximized through tube butting and shaping, removal of the rear end pivot, a one-piece linkage, and the use of large weld areas in critical places.

Some say it is all in the details: Seven forged parts per frame add strength while keeping the weight down. Fantastic standover clearance encourages the rider to tackle tough terrain. Size-specific cable routing keeps it all clean and appropriately out of the way. Mud clearance abounds even with 2.4" tires. The direct mount, post style disc brake mount offers adaptor-free caliper mounting with 160mm rotors.

Salsa have finally gone full suspension!

Enter the Big Mama. Perfect for Big Folk that want to get some air. Simple, scandium, four inch travel, 29'er trail bike.

Looks. Well, pretty damn sexy.

Amazingly good value for full suspension 29er. If you are over 6' , this bike should have some serious consideration.

Big Mama. Sometimes bigger is better.

  Pivot Cycles - Mach 5

The Mach 5 has 140mm (5.5) of travel and is meant to cover the spectrum of 24 hour racing, all day in the saddle rides, with the ability to devour technical descents. This bike doesn't bob under power and it isn't real squishy feeling (we like highly technical terms like squishy).

What you can't tell in a parking lot is that the Mach 5 absolutely comes alive at speed (even in rock gardens which we have a few of in Melrose, Fruita and Hurricane). There are certainly longer travel bikes that are plusher, but it's all about controlled travel. The Mach 5 holds its line at speed and always seems to have extra travel in reserve for big hits, big drops, and even the occasional big jump.

The head angle with the fork at 140mm travel is 69 degrees. This is a nice stable number for handling very technical terrain. Additionally, with the DW Link and the shock (2.25 stroke on a medium frame), it is imperative to run 30% sag (.675). Most people are used to running less because other bikes need to have more air to keep from bobbing. NOT THIS ONE! The Mach 5 is all about achieving a balance to get that perfect combination of incredible pedaling efficiency and frame stiffness with a controlled feel throughout the stroke and enough travel to keep everyone grinnin' while they're spinnin'.

and don't forget the Mach 4 for racing and the Firebird for flying and the 429 for big folk that want to play too - we are looking to have a Pivot Demo daywith all these bikes in October so will keep you posted.
